Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has announced the deaths of two senior government officials, describing the incidents as “cowardly assassinations.”

The officials identified are Minister of Intelligence, Esmail Khatib, and Minister of Defence, Aziz Nasirzadeh.

In a statement, Pezeshkian said the attacks had plunged the nation into deep mourning, noting that some family members of the victims, as well as members of their teams, were also affected.

He extended condolences to the Iranian people over what he described as the loss of key cabinet members, alongside the Secretary of the Supreme Council and several military and Basij commanders.

Despite the development, the president emphasized that the incident would not deter the country’s resolve, stating that the path of the deceased officials would continue “more firmly than before.”
